Building a civilized society by the safety and development of women and children: Murmu

GUWAHATI: President Draupadi Murmu today said that the safety and development of women and children is a sign of a civilized society. The President said this while laying the foundation stone or inaugurating various development projects here. During this visit, he visited the famous Shakti Peeth Mata Kamakhya.Wishing the success of various projects started in this sector related to health, education, railways, road construction, petroleum and women empowerment, he expressed confidence that with the successful implementation of these schemes, new business and employment opportunities will be created, transport Facilities will increase and the economy of the entire North East region including Assam will be strengthened.The President said that better infrastructure is the basis of development of any state. The Northeast region is the centerpiece of India’s ‘Act East Policy’. He expressed happiness that the Central Government is paying special attention to infrastructure and connectivity in the region.The President said that the development of Assam can prove to be the engine of development of the entire North East region. He said that the North East region is rich in natural resources. He noted that Assam contributes 13 per cent of the total crude oil production in India. Also 15 percent of India’s total natural gas production comes from the Northeast region.He expressed confidence that the state-of-the-art depot inaugurated today at Moinarbond would go a long way in meeting the petroleum products requirements of the entire Barak Valley as well as Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.The President said that the central government is paying special attention to road and rail connectivity in all the northeastern states including Assam. He expressed confidence that the various projects related to road and railways, which have been inaugurated or laid, will boost tourism opportunities besides giving a boost to trade and transport in the region.The President said that the 3000 Model Anganwadi Centers launched today to further strengthen the various services for women and children in Assam is a commendable step. He also expressed happiness over the foundation stone laying of 100 model secondary schools with the aim of providing better education to the children of tea garden workers.
